Two men from the Lander area recently had a run-in with a bear. One of the men called me last week and urged me to get the message out that bear spray is only effective if you can use it when you need it. He said his brother had the only can the two had between them, and it was on his brother’s belt when the bear appeared, rather than in his hand. If he’d been holding the spray when they met the bear, chances are his brother’s leg would be tooth-hole free today.
